Alligator Boats

Students in K-3 in-person enrichment were treated to a science lesson that explored the world of alligators.  Students watched a video and discussed everything that they knew and learned about alligators.

Students then constructed a boat that would be strong enough to load and hold their tiny alligator figurines.

Ms. Haskins then demonstrates how they will float the boats with the alligators in the plastic water container.

The construction begins!

Students help, socialize and discuss their design ideas

Concentration, focus and diligence at work!

Taking a moment to reflect and contemplate the next move in the creation process.

All design shapes and variations are welcome!

Once the Alligator boats were constructed and set afloat, Ms. Haskins introduces some probability into the picture.  She gives the students pennies and asks them to guess how many pennies they predict it will take to sink the Alligator Boats!

What floats your boat?
